Our recycling business is not just about circulating goods—it is about creating new value in people’s lives and delivering smiles. By passing on pre-owned items to new owners, each product is given a new life, and new stories begin. This process is not only about the individuals who part with these items or those who receive them but also about the thoughts and efforts we put into connecting them. We cherish every moment of this journey.
However, there are still challenges that need to be addressed in the reuse industry. In Japan, approximately 40 million tons of general waste are generated annually, yet only about 20% is reused or recycled. Many household items, such as furniture and appliances, could be reused but are often discarded instead. Furthermore, while Japan’s reuse market has grown to a scale of approximately 2 trillion yen, individual awareness of reuse and the necessary infrastructure have not kept pace, limiting the full potential of second-hand goods.
We aim to tackle these issues through our reuse initiatives. In addition to promoting reuse domestically, we are expanding our network globally to deliver second-hand goods that were not reused in Japan to those who need them overseas. We are also actively involved in assisting domestic companies in expanding their reuse sales channels abroad, ensuring that more pre-owned products can create new value. Through these efforts, we strive to reduce waste, increase reuse rates, and contribute to sustainability.
At the same time, these activities represent a significant step toward building a sustainable future. The Earth’s resources are finite, and unless we shift away from a mass-production and mass-disposal society, our future faces great uncertainty. That is why we must cherish and extend the life of our belongings for future generations.
